Select Script Excerpts
Fragile
“He holds the rest of the broken chest piece up with one hand, and pulls the fallen shards out of Alex’s body with the other. They come out bloody and sticky, but Amal is able to wedge them back into place. He sobs and places his hand over Alex’s chest, keeping it together. He slows his breathing until he can control it and lays next to Alex’s body.”
Butterflies
“Her sobs turn into coughs, and her coughs to gags. She crawls to the toilet and leans over it, heaving. She feels something in her throat and, hesitantly, puts her finger in. Slowly, she pulls out a black clump and watches, horrified, as it unfolds itself into a butterfly. It shakes its wings dry and starts to flap them. It flutters in the air and lands on Charlotte’s nose. She swats it away and stands up, panicking. The butterfly falls to the ground where it stays still - its wings pointed up.”
My Baby Doesn’t Cry
“The wife gets up and grabs a small bowl. She makes the long walk to her husband and plops a pile of potatoes with the skins still on onto his plate. Her fingers wrap around the serving spoon. She is missing two.”
